When Jacob found himself returning to the scene of his own crime, he was facing the very real threat of his own mortality. He wronged his brother by stealing the blessing away from him. His brother was much stronger than him and he knew that he could easily kill him in his anger.
Yet God beckoned him to this place.
Sometimes God asks us to do things that could kill us and could kill our ego.
He did not want to do this, so he wrestled with God. And through that experience he found himself living with a limp. He used to depend on himself. On his own schemes, his wit, his deceptions had caused him to thrive, but that day had passed. Something happened to him through his life experience with God. He became dependent on Him and do you want to know something? That limp is what caused him to be written about in the annals of faith in Hebrews.
It is said he was at the end of his life, just as his will had reached an end to a point, and now he praised God. That was attributed to him as faith. You may feel like your weakness, limp, or burdens disqualify you from becoming a great person in the eyes of God, yet it is often that very weakness that gives you strength. The strength to allow God to guide your life. Your will can only take you so far in heaven. Sometimes, all it takes is an attitude of praise right in the midst of your pain and your weakness. That's what Jacob did after he had come to the end of himself. When the will dies, that's when we find God at our very lowest. It is said the meek will inherit the earth afterall.
And do you want to know what happened when Jacob limped back to his brother?
He was welcomed with open arms and forgiven for all his grievances. A miracle had occurred.
It wasn't Jacob's strength that saved him but God's strength inside of his weakness.
A miracle is birthed when you lay down your life to God. You may feel so beyond exhausted from all your labors, your faith, and your wrestling. But sometimes God just wants you to lean on Him and praise Him through the pain. And this becomes your crowning achievement in this life. His victories become yours. A beautiful experience echoing throughout eternity forever.
